Love for the Buck 110

A recurring thread in the knife forums is “what is your favorite knife” or “if you could only own one knife, what would it be?” Invarriably the Buck 110 Folding Hunter makes it to my short list for both of these questions.

While not the most advanced design by today’s standards (there are lighter and arguably more functional designs available today) the 110 remains popular nearly 50 years after it was first introduced. To me there is something magical about how a 110 snaps open, how it fits my hand, and the utility of it’s blade shape.

For the collector it would be hard to find a single model that can be found in more variations, materials, production models and Buck Custom Shop models. Then add the folks offering customized 110’s and you have a nearly endless variety to collect.

You can get a standard 110 with 420HC steel for under $35. A 110 from Buck’s Custom Shop will run you $150 or so depending on your choice of options. Both are incredible bargains for a genuine made in the USA knife with a pedigree like the 110!

I have a number of 110’s ranging from standard production models to several custom’s. My favorite would have to be a custom shop offering from a few years ago. It has a blade of BG-42 steel, nickel silver bolsters and G10 scales. It’s a beauty!
